Metop roots back to the 1970s, when the company began as part of PLM’s inspection department (Plåt Manufaktur AB). In 1987, Metop AB became an independent company carrying forward PLM’s technical expertise and commitment to excellence.
What started as a small, specialised department has now grown into a global supplier of Canning quality control equipment, trusted by some of the biggest names in the food and beverage industry.
The beginning of a new era
When Anders Wanner took over as owner in 2014, Metop entered a new era. His vision was clear: preserve the company’s hands-on Swedish craftsmanship while driving continuous innovation and growth.
Since then, Metop has grown significantly, not just in size, but in scope. The team now includes skilled professionals across five departments:

One of Metop’s proudest milestones was the development of its X-ray system — a major step forward in non-destructive seam inspection. This technology allows producers to analyze seams without cutting cans open, increasing speed, accuracy, and efficiency while reducing waste.
Today, Metop X-ray systems are used on production lines around the world, ensuring the highest standards of quality control in some of the industry’s largest factories.
